The weather outside was dark and dreary. The wind blew in cold gusts through his red wings and clothes, forcing him to suppress a shiver. It was difficult to stay warm when all Cole wore was a grey undershirt and a pair of slightly baggy jeans. The wind seemed to whip beneath the fabric every time it managed to snag the chance. It didn't help that it was raining, either. The soft pitter patter of the raindrops on the rooftops, the ground, and his wings added to the dismal scene that was slowly, but surely, freezing the divine and all of his fire controlling abilities, right to the core. Talk about cold fire.
As funny as a frozen fire divine would be, it wasn't quite as funny as how opposite his element Cole acted. He was nearly as far away from hostile fire in his demeanor as one could get, as demonstrated by the nonchalant flick of the water of his wings just before opening the door to Starbucks and walking inside. He stood off-center, off to the side, reading over the menu in a very bored manner. At length, he ordered a black coffee and blueberry muffin, waited for it to be ready, took it from the counter, and went to sit down at a table in the corner of the room.
The table he sat at was just beside the window. He sat just far enough to not be too cold, and leaned back, holding the coffee mug in his hands and closing his eyes. What was it about rainy weather that made him want to just fall asleep? Somewhere in the distance a low grumble of thunder could be heard, and all Cole could think was, Guess I won't be flying home.

JETTA BLAISE slit wrists and sleeping with the girl next door
actions "speak louder than" thoughts
Jet and the rain had a sort of love-hate relationship. Being a fire elemental and staunchly loyal to the fact, water and Jetta didn't get along much unless it was a practically boiling hot shower at the end of a rough day. At the same time, he had always thought rainy days were peaceful and pretty. But one thing he didn't like was the cold. What a lovely winter we're having this spring. If his clothes wouldn't burn off, the boy would set himself aflame and go about his day like that. He was glad to be free of the mortal fear of being burned - it made life easier to be able to touch any surface in the kitchen, regardless of temperature. Stove? No problem. Snuggling himself closer into his black hoodie, the boy made his way to the land of coffee, feeling the rain on his hood. At least it was keeping him dry.
That hoodie was his favorite. It was loose and a few sizes too big, perfect for hiding things in, and for staying warm. Not to mention, it was plain. Very nondescript. Nothing could distinguish him from the rest of the crowd when the hood was up, like it was now. At least, until he got inside, when slender fingers would whip the hood down with quick precision. Straight to order, the boy got his usual - a double chocolate chip frappuccino, with white mocha in place of the default mocha sauce. It was called an oreo frappuccino, because it (obviously) tasted like oreos. It had been something he'd found out about when his uncle had worked at Starbucks for all of two months. Uncle Sterling was pretty cool, but over the years Jet noticed he was a grade-A slacker, never able to hold down a job for very long. He made a decent living selling drugs every now and again, and collecting unemployment checks. It was Jet's mother and Oliver that brought home the real cash. The only advantage Uncle Sterling really had was his gift, that being a decent magician skilled in the ways of deception.
At any rate, Jet took his delicacy and searched for a seat. There were plenty... But a bright color caught his eye. Wings. Bright, fiery wings that naturally drew Jet's attention like a moth to - well, to a flame. As he stood, Jet removed his hoodie, tying it around his hips and letting it brush against the tight black denim his slender legs were clad in. After adjusting the rather plain white button-up shirt he'd thrown on that morning, the boy approached the colorful stranger with curiosity. "I really like your wings," he offered, standing to the side of the divine. It seemed odd to his relatively normal family, people with wings walking around, but for Jet it was just part of normal life. "They look... Unique."

People walk in, people walk out. How many people had passed through the door to Starbucks since it opened? What about since the first day it opened? Many people had, that much was certain, and it would probably take a lot of searching through files to try and count, one-by-one, each customer Starbucks had ever had. It couldn't be worth it and no good could come out of it. In reality, it was just another touch of wasted time. Another way to occupy oneself as the sand was pulled from the top of the hourglass to the bottom by gravity. Gravity, whose sole purpose was to keep things on the ground. She didn't even have a great hold on him.
But before Cole knew it, and it was surprising that he realized it at all, there was a person standing beside him. A slow, controlled motion was the turn of Cole's head from the window to the young face. In the same way, his thoughts shifted from the coffee shop to what the boy had said. Even though he understood what the boy said and was aware that it was a compliment, he didn't reply immediately. Instead, after a brief pause, he continued to turn his head to glance at his wings. "Yes... I suppose they could be unique..." Cole's voice was hollow, completely devoid of emotions. The words seemed to roll off his tongue lazily, as if they had all the time in the world to make it past the divine's lips.
The steely grey eyes, with just the slightest hint of blue in them, turned to look again at the young face of the stranger. "Thanks..." Even his blink was slow enough to seem deliberate. A slow, deep intake of air caused Cole's shoulders to rise just slightly and he, once more, turned to look out the window. "Since... I have not seen another being with wings like mine... Unique is... Appropriate..." His eyes shut, slowly, like everything else about him. It was almost as if speaking so many words at once took more effort than anything he had ever done, and now he had to rest. Though, that wasn't quite the case.
Cole had simply shut his eyes so that he could better listen to the rain outside. He didn't know the stranger, and with so many open seats, it was unlikely that the new face would sit close enough to continue on in conversation. Granted, it didn't mean that he wouldn't talk if spoken to. It was just that he didn't think there was going to be a conversation to respond to.

JETTA BLAISE slit wrists and sleeping with the girl next door
actions "speak louder than" thoughts
What an odd stranger. Nothing at all like Jet, who even simply standing with a frappuccino in hand had a sort of energy about the way he held himself. Even in his everyday life, the boy was a flame, passionate about every emotion that coursed through his skinny body. Considering it was often joined by teenage hormones and caffeine, those emotions were only more amplified.
So there was no way he was just gonna leave. He was, after all, a curious soul. And so, he stood, listening to the slow-speaking stranger, a little impatient with the pace of words. As if he had anywhere to really go. Oh, the advantages of being a teenager with no real social life. Jet swiped his bangs away from his eyes and seated himself across from the divine, pulling a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He knew damn well he wasn't supposed to have them, but he didn't really care. Maybe it was because his uncle was okay with it. Sparking a brief flame from his fingertips, the thing was quickly lit and held in the boy's other, delicate hand.
"I don't think I've seen you around." Which was right - Jet didn't really get out much. He wasn't so interested in all that jazz, the center of parties to going to the mall. Or anywhere, for that matter, unless there was a reason. (Read: booze.) He examined the stranger - the bored eyes, the bored face, the bored demeanor... Somehow, that was so interesting to Jetta, who could hardly hold so still. In fact, unless he was in the dark, he couldn't bear to close his eyes for very long. The blue depths took in every detail they could, including those colorful wings. It must be cool to have wings. But wouldn't turning over in bed be a pain with those in the way? Good question.
At any rate, Jet took a slow drag from his cigarette and let the smoke curl up from his lips. "I take it you don't go to school?"

"speech" thoughts actions
It wasn't until the boy spoke that Cole realized he wasn't going to eat his muffin alone. At length, he opened his eyes to look at the boy, now smoking across from him. In his detached voice, he responded. [red]"You're the student smoker.. While I'm the not addicted adult..."[/red] Was that the hint of a smirk on the divine's features? If it was, it was almost too minuscule a change to tell. He took the time to glance at his coffee and muffin, almost as if he'd just remembered they were there, before taking the time to look back at the new bit of company that was sitting with him. [red]"No... I haven't attended school in quite some time... I've settled with being self-educated now.."[/red] After all, that was the only thing that was certain at this point in time. Time was always changing, new things were always being discovered, and there was always something else to learn.
Cole reached for his blueberry muffin with what seemed a lack of interest and took a bite out of it in the same indifferent manner. He would take the time to chew his muffin, and chew it well, before swallowing it's fluffy goodness and washing it down with a mouthful of coffee. [red]"Though.. You probably haven't seen me out much... "[/red] He took another bite, chewed it thoroughly, and chased it down once more with a sip of coffee. [red]"Perhaps you'd be surprised to know... "[/red] He breathed in deeply, preparing for his next batch of words, [red]"But.. I enjoy the dawn and dusk hours more than the time inbetween them."[/red]
His head turned toward the window once more. [red]"I also enjoy the rain..."[/red] Even if it made flying a little more difficult, but he honestly hated bright sunlight in his face as he was trying to fly. It was such an inconvenient thing, sunlight. It was either too bright or it was going to be. At dawn and dusk, part of the sun's blinding rays were hidden under the horizon, and during the rain it was hidden behind clouds, which was just the way Cole preferred his weather. Bright, sunny, hot weather held no part of his heart, even if he had his mother's fire elemental abilities. Fire may have been his element, but the sound of water was so calming. From time to time, Cole wondered what it would be like to control water instead.
